Hospice Care

Euthanasia has always been a part of veterinary practice, but we’ve only recently started talking about the time in between a terminal diagnosis and the death of the pet. Hospice care is a relatively new service in the veterinary industry. People often feel rushed into making a final decision at the time of diagnosis. We can develop a manageable treatment plan for many pets to control pain and discomfort, providing a quality, happy life prior to death occurring naturally or choosing euthanasia. Whether that happy life lasts for days, weeks, or months, we will make a plan that fits your wishes and your pet’s best interests.

Hospice care aims to meet the physical and mental needs of the terminally ill or geriatric pet. It begins the moment the pet’s family has decided not to pursue aggressive, curative therapies and functions on the principle that death is a part of life. Terminal illnesses and the dying process can be experienced with dignity, as an animal rests at home with its loving family. Learn more about our hospice care here.

Alternative Therapies

We offer a wide variety of alternative therapies to help your pet feel their best. Rehabilitation and therapy are a major focus of ours, and we have worked with an array of conditions, including but not limited to chronic arthritis, orthopedic injury, and post-operative healing.

Stem Cell Therapy

This new and emerging treatment has the power to heal a variety of problems by using the body’s own regenerative properties. We would love to discuss this new treatment with you! For more information, stories, and FAQs, click here.

House Calls

Due to staffing limitations, house calls are not currently available.

Not every dog enjoys car rides, and many cats dread coming to the vet. Why not bring the vet to them? Every Tuesday thru Friday, we are available for house calls by appointment, between the hours of 10 AM and 6 PM. We are happy to do yearly exams, vaccines, sick pet exams, and routine blood-work, all from the comfort of your home. An additional travel charge does apply, based on mileage from the clinic; we are happy to give you an estimate prior to your visit if you are interested.

Wellness Care

What is the most important part of your pet’s yearly check-up? Vaccines? Heartworm testing? Actually, it’s a nose-to-toes annual exam! Preventative care exams help detect early signs of disease or changes due to aging. These changes can often be slowed or reversed with diet changes or nutritional supplements if detected early. When combined with wellness blood screens, preventative care helps us detect those subtle changes that our pets can’t tell us about.

Massage Therapy

Canine massage therapy has a long list of health benefits for dogs of all ages. From rapidly growing puppies, athletic young adults to arthritic grey-muzzled seniors, all can benefit from the improved circulation and pain relief provided by massage.

Our multi-talented groomer, Melissa, attended the Chicago School of Canine Massage to bring a top-notch service to the pampered pets at Pleasant Paws. She has training in canine massage and low-stress handling to train dogs to enjoy their massage experience.
